Implementation ASOPOS 2.0 Recommendations (2024)
The ASOPOS 2.0 recommendations have been published as GAW Report No. 268: “Ozonesonde Measurement Principles and Best Operational Practices”. With the adoption of these SOP’s, the global ozonesonde community has the potential to achieve the 5% uncertainty level in tropospheric and stratospheric ozone requested by the satellite and trends communities.
To attain the goal of overall 5% uncertainty it is essential that the ASOPOS recommendations of best ozonesonde practice be implemented in the operation of the global ozonesonde networks of GAW, NDACC, SHADOZ and GRUAN. Therefore, the ASOPOS 2.0 panel has prepared a series of six short webinars addressing the key topics of GAW Report No. 268. These webinars are available as video clips (mp4 format), as Powerpoint (pptx with voice) and pdf presentations, that are accessed as in the table below (Table ASOPOS 2.0 Webinars 2024).
In addition, a number of regional, interactive on-line workshops on best ozonesounding practices are being organized in the course of 2024. These workshops will enable the ozonesonde operators and their station managers to interact directly with the ASOPOS-sonde experts on the outcome of the new ASOPOS 2.0 report with their new SOPs and associated topics.
